This was the first illustration I did for the Murder She Wrote series. The challenge for this cover and the series in general was to put a skull somewhere within the image using only the elements that would naturally be there. All I was told was to put it somewhere on the courthouse steps. Using the statue with the arch in the background gave me the basic shape but I struggle to find an element to use for the eyes. The birds provided a perfect the solution.
Synopsis
Jessica Fletcher travels to Boston to help her friend, noted criminal attorney Malcolm McLoon, defend a wealthy client accused of murdering his older brother. But when a key defense witness in the case is slain, it’s up to Jessica to uncover the truth–and keep an innocent man out of prison.
